When Netflix grabbed Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali’ series, it won hearts of many who love the film and why not. There’s almost nothing that the movie lacks in, whether it is its breathtaking granduer, amazing storyline, mesmerizing music, finely detailed technicalities, deft direction or the stellar performances. ‘Baahubali’ is undoubtedly a timeless and prestigious epic, and thanks to Netflix its always just a few clicks away.
Even though major OTT platforms like Netflix and Prime run after big masala blockbusters for the initial profits and subscribers they pull, they very well understand the long term value of classic assets like ‘Baahubali’. These epic films are such that one can’t get enough of them with one or two time viewing in the theatres and that is why their availability on a streaming platform helps, where one has an option to revisit it as many times as they want.
Rajamouli is upto a classic once again in the form of ‘RRR’ that will hit the theatres on 13th October 2021. From the looks of it ‘RRR’ has every ingredient of an epic film, from a star-studded cast, a huge budget to the magic of Rajamouli. The movie which will have a pan India release has a Himalayan hype built around it ever since its existence was known to public. And interestingly we are hearing that streaming giants like Netflix and Prime are already sketching plans for post theatrical OTT rights of RRR, even though the release is several months away!
We have seen how Amazon Prime has recently been a frontrunner in grabbing some mass favourite Indian movies but on the other hand, Netflix knows when and where it needs to raise its game. It will be interesting to see who gets the post-theatrical digital streaming rights of the much awaited ‘RRR’. Will Netflix and Rajamouli have a reunion or will it be Prime this time?
